How our Appointments work

Sports Therapy

Your initial session will always be a consultation appointment where the majority of the time spent will be an assessment of your injury and health status. Here we will attempt to narrow down your issue(s) to reach a differential diagnosis, and provide as much information and advice as we can at the time to help you care for your injury and understand what to avoid.

If there is time remaining we may provide low-risk manual therapy treatments that we believe will provide some benefit at that time, as well as showing you some range of motion exercises to help reduce symptoms and regain functionality.

All clients will receive a personalised rehabilitation programme in both PDF and Mobile App form, we aim to complete and send this to you within a week of your appointment.

If a Follow up session is needed your therapist will continue to attempt to reach a definitive diagnosis (though this often not possible without diagnostic imaging), while also developing your personal rehabilitation plan (online & in-person) and treatment plan (in-person only) if they are required. More info on some of the treatments we offer can be found on our About page.

With suspected neurological issues, most people will require a number of follow-up appointments though we will only recommend further sessions when we feel there is an effective reason to do so.

What differences does having a Sports Therapist consultation online make?

The biggest difference is there will be no hands-on treatment, allowing for more time for discussion of your symptoms with your therapist so there will be no rush in providing you expert advice and teaching of rehabilitation exercises.

Injury diagnosis will certainly be slightly more of a challenge without our ability to feel for issues and stress test structures, however much our training is focussed around discussion of signs & symptoms and we will also demonstrate to you how to test for certain conditions.

You will need a reasonable room space and webcam which you can reposition at times so we can assess your full body alignment. Don't worry too much about your setup, video call appointments will be in a casual format.

How much progress can I achieve without hands-on treatment?

So much! The overall effectiveness of hands-on treatments compared to rehabilitation and lifestyle changes is often confused.

While manual therapy is a fundamental part of our skillset, scientific research points to exercise-based rehabilitation and teaching of Strength & Conditioning principles as being crucial to the treatment and prevention of MSK issues. This has led many allied-health professionals, and the National Health Service, to reduce their emphasis on hands-on treatment somewhat as patient education takes the forefront.

Pairing this with the current COVID-19 pandemic, Telehealth is now the most convenient way to get in touch with your healthcare providers. Though we know this will take some adapting to.

Of course, if you are local to the Glasgow area, you can always transition from online to in-person appointments if you or your therapist feel this would be of great benefit.

How many sessions will I need?

You are in complete control of how many sessions you book in to, we will only offer our recommendation. After 1-2 sessions we may feel you are now capable of recovering on your own.

Every injury is different but once we've gotten a good idea on your condition from our first consultation we will give you an idea on the possible timescale for your return to health, and then generally how may sessions would be of benefit to you in that time.

We do our best to keep expenses down so that the price does not impede you from getting fully fit. For example, if we believe your injury is self-limiting and will take 6 weeks to heal but everything is healing as it should and your rehab plan is working then we may simply keep in touch with your progress via email at no extra cost!

Other times your injury may require a more intensive approach, where diagnosis is difficult and your treatment plans require frequent adaptation.

Don't expect long-term injuries to recover quickly, while we can reduce pain and improve functionality it is important to understand that physiological healing takes as long as it requires and cannot realistically be sped up without unnecessary risk.

Everyone is different and we'll give as much information specific to you as possible, our goal is always to return you to health safely in the minimum number of appointments.

I'm uninjured and just want a massage, can I still book a Sports Therapy appointment?

Yes! Just put in your booking notes that you are uninjured and what type of treatments you are hoping for and we will know to complete a brief and simple assessment to start and then spend more time on hands-on treatments for your session.

Fitness Instructing and Exercise Programming

These appointments provide you the opportunity to work with your therapist who is also a qualified Sport Scientist and experienced Fitness Instructor, offering a uniquely science-driven approach not often found in the personal training world.

You will tell us your goals (or we will help you decipher them!) and your circumstances so we can build a fun, effective, and realistic fitness programme for you, which you will receive both in PDF format and via a mobile app with picture/video form guides and full descriptions so even first-timers can feel confident in their abilities. During this session there will be plenty opportunity to ask any questions you have, give you demonstrations of exercises, and let you practice & provide feedback of your form.

Outside of your first programme, the topics discussed will depend on your own interests, these can come from you or recommended by your therapist after getting to know a bit about you. This may include factors such as Nutrition guidance, both for general health and personalised to your goals and circumstances.

Review Fitness Programming Appointments

After your first "1-to-1 Fitness Programming" appointment you can book in for discounted Review appointments. Here you can get new programmes or updates to your current ones, get further guidance, or run through your programme together. Just let us know how you'd like to best utilise the hour in the booking notes!

I'm healthy and just want a personal workout programme, can I still book a Fitness appointment?

Yes! For convenience in these times we want to minimise in-person contact so all 1-to-1 fitness programming sessions will take place online. All uninjured/recovered clients can book in for a fitness-oriented programming session using the cheaper  "1-to-1 Fitness Programming" appointment option.

I'm uninjured but have a health condition, can I still book a Fitness appointment?

Yes! We are required to complete an initial assessment to assess your health status so that together you and your therapist can craft a safe, effective, and enjoyable exercise programme for you.

We can advise you during the session, but if you know for certain beforehand whether you want to focus on using your exercise programme as treatment for your condition or just for general fitness purposes you can let us know in the booking notes.
